Business set-up in France: an attractive proposition for foreign businesses

Michel Deudon - 01 April 2008
Groupe Synerga highlight the ease of setting up a business in France

Businesses with plans to set up in a foreign country are often afraid of the commitment and financial risk of such an operation and are not aware of the options available to them in France where this type of project can be started quickly. Projects of this nature often require an in-depth introduction to the country and a large investment.

MSI's French accounting group member, Groupe Synerga currently handles many business set-ups for its foreign clients, providing them with payroll services such as payslips, employment contracts, hiring formalities and social security contributions calculation.

France has for many years been offering businesses a solution that does not require a large investment or commitment. In fact, foreign businesses can hire staff in France in order to test the French market, without having to open a branch or a subsidiary. This solution allows the business to register as an employer in France and hire staff, while continuing all management from the country where the head office is located.

French law is applicable for the employer-employee relationship. Social security contributions on salaries paid in France are owing in France. Staff can be French natives or foreigners who wish to settle in France. This system offers the same social security coverage and benefits as any French employer. It is therefore a very good idea to use this system prior to making a more permanent decision to establish a business in France.
