Change to survive
No hope of 'coasting' through the last years of a career
I've just returned from the MSI Global Alliance European Meeting in Lisbon. The theme was 'Change to Survive' - and the attendance was strong.
Different delegates attend for different reasons, but I do wonder whether this year's theme, and the related presentations, didn't go some way to increasing the numbers.
The pace of change in the business world - largely driven by technology - continues to accelerate. 10 years ago, the 50 year old lawyer or accountant could probably look forward to coasting through the final 10 or 15 years of his or her career on the back of the experience gained over the previous 30 years.
Such an approach today would be suicidal. A failure to keep abreast of change is a sure (and one-way) route to the revolving door.
