Overview

Before acquiring the law degree, Derek has obtained degrees in mechanical engineering and master in business administration.  He was trained to be an intellectual property and commercial lawyer at ONC Lawyers and its associated patent firm in USA.

During his course of training, he gained experience in handling cases of intellectual property (contentious and non-contentious), including application for registration of patents and trademarks, drafting licensing contracts and contracts for the provision and transfer of technology, prosecuting and defending cases of infringement of intellectual property rights. 

As the Manager of the Patents Department, Derek serves many technology companies, giving advice on the protection and enforcement of the intellectual property rights.  His engineering background serves as an add-on value in handling patent-related cases.  He has experience in prosecuting cases of trademark infringement for an international brand name in China.
