Overview
Graduated from the University of Sao Paulo Law School in 1985 and is admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association (Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia Chapters). From January to June 1992, he was seconded to Nagashima & Ohno, in Tokyo.
Mr. Muriel joined the law firm Pinheiro Neto Advogados in 1983, where he developed his career as an associate and partner of the firm until 2005. His 20 years of experience involves a variety of legal matters, with emphasis on cross-border litigation, product liability and tort litigation, corporate disputes, issues related to financial institutions, domestic and international arbitration.
Mr. Muriel holds a Certificate of Proficiency in English by the University of Cambridge (UK), and conversation skills in English, French, Spanish and Japanese.
He is a board member and former president of the Brazilian Society of Studies on Asia and the Pacific Rim (SOBAP), a member of the Inter Pacific Bar Association and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kunito Miyasaka Foundation, a charity devoted to cultural activities in Brazil.
He is also Director of CESA, the Brazilian Association of Law Firms, where he coordinates the Judiciary Committee. He is member of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee, and of the Latin American Committee on Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce – ICC, in Paris.
Mr. Muriel is the Chairman of the Arbitration Committee of the Brazilian Bar Association, São Paulo Chapter, and is often referred in domestic and international publications as a highly recommended lawyer in his area of practice besides being a speaker in domestic and international seminars.
