Malta: Fitch Ratings affirms Malta at ‘A’ with positive outlook

Fitch Ratings has affirmed Malta's long-term Foreign and Local Currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'A' with a positive outlook. Furthermore, the issue ratings on Malta's senior unsecured foreign and local currency bonds have also been affirmed at 'A' and 'F1', respectively. The Country Ceiling has been affirmed at 'AAA' and the short-term Foreign and Local Currency IDRs at 'F1'. MSI's Maltese law member Chetcuti Cauchi Advocates explains further.

UK: Ilott v Mitson Supreme Court decision

15th March 2017

The Judgement of the Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Ilott v The Blue Cross and others [2017] UKSC 17 [also known as Ilott v Mitson] was given this morning. The decision of the S.C. unanimously overturned that of the Court of Appeal which allowed an adult child to claim against the estate of her late mother even though she excluded her from inheriting under the terms of her Will. USA: She's your employee, not mine! Why are we in this lawsuit?

The Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has issued a new and important ruling on the concept of "joint employers"- when an employee can sue two different companies as if both are his employer. The court adopted an especially broad test that will expand potential liability for companies that might not think of themselves as employers.
