China's Broad & Bright Appointed by Law Firm Network MSI Global Alliance
The highly regarded, 16-partner Chinese firm is one of the country’s fastest growing firms and joins other medium sized, local, independent firms in the East Asian region that have decided to affiliate with MSI Global Alliance in recent years
As recently reported in The Lawyer, the world’s largest association of independent law and accountancy firms, MSI Global Alliance (MSI), is delighted to announce that Broad & Bright Law Firm has been appointed as their representative member firm in China.
The highly regarded, 16-partner Chinese firm is one of the country’s fastest growing firms and joins other medium sized, local, independent firms in the East Asian region that have decided to affiliate with MSI Global Alliance in recent years, including South Korea’s Lee International IP & Law Group, Chooi & Company in Malaysia, and ONC Lawyers in Hong Kong.
Broad and Bright has a further 47 lawyers and has maintained an average revenue growth rate in the last few years of around 30 per cent a year. Currently, approximately 70% of the firm’s clients are foreign companies, and about 90% of the firm’s work is of a cross-border nature.
Broad & Bright has widely acknowledged strengths in corporate and commercial transactions and in the areas of international trade and anti-trust, with further practice concentrations in intellectual property and litigation and arbitration.
And while the firm often works with large international law firms on various transactions and cases related to China, in recent years, the firm has also been representing a number of Chinese companies involved in outbound investment and M&A. As such, the firm often needs legal advice from local law firms from different jurisdictions worldwide. Hence the decision to join MSI.
“To meet the growing “Go Global” trend of many of our mid-sized and small clients, we decided to join MSI to offer these companies easy access to a global network of high-quality lawyers and accountants in the world’s major commercial centres at affordable prices. We also hope to attract more quality foreign clients who want to do business in China through cooperation with the other member firms of MSI,” says Hongchuan Liu, Managing Director of Broad & Bright.
James Mendelssohn, MSI’s CEO comments: “With offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and plans to open a third office, Broad and Bright is a progressive and ambitious young firm that meets all of our stringent membership criteria. This appointment demonstrates that international law firm networks offer strong local firms a real alternative to achieving global reach, while allowing them to also retain their independence. The calibre of MSI’s law members in East Asia, and the work they are carrying out collaboratively as independent firms, shows that the network model is highly credible in providing internationally focused, entrepreneurial companies with an alternative source of commercial advisory services.”
The admission of Broad & Bright follows an extensive selection and recruitment process carried out by MSI that assessed the credentials of a number of candidate law firms in China. MSI continues to eye up further targets in Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, and invites independent firms to come forward.
