Aitken Partners appoints new principle to its Business Law team

9th November 2016

MSI's Melbourne law member Aitken Partners is pleased to announce the appointment of Malcolm McBratney to its Business Law team as a new Principal from 2 November 2016.

Malcolm is rated as one of Australia’s leading intellectual property lawyers, and has recently relocated to Melbourne from Brisbane.

“We are pleased to welcome Malcolm to our team, and we are sure he will become an important part of Aitken Partners,” said Ed Clark, Principal. “Malcolm expands our capacity in intellectual property and information technology as well as business law and we are looking forward to working with him.

“We know his legal skills and understanding of the business side of legal practice are absolutely top rate, but we also know he was looking for a law firm that was different to the others and offered a real work-life balance and didn’t just talk about it. In saying that, we also know we are a firm of very good lawyers focused on the best outcome for our clients, which also fits well with how Malcolm operates.”

Malcolm has experience in a range of industries including manufacturing, FMCG, information technology, food and agribusiness and life sciences and practices in corporate and commercial, intellectual property and competition and consumer law. He is a ranked lawyer in expert and peer review tables such as Chambers Global, Chambers Asia Pacific, Asia Pacific Legal 500, World Trademark Review 1000, Media Law International and Best Lawyers.

Malcolm has also worked with foreign companies during take-overs, joint ventures and investment into Australia.

Malcolm shares a few comments: “It was important for me to find a firm with the right skills and also the right culture, I think Aitken Partners has all of that. I was really keen to find a good home for the next phase of my career, and the firm has great expertise in areas like corporate and business law and I think I will add to that and fit in well. With the top five companies in the world now being technology companies, we are in the digital age and I am also looking forward to growing the IP and technology practice at Aitken Partners.

“I didn’t want to just move firms; I wanted to make changes. I like the culture and atmosphere in the office, it focusses on people without sacrificing anything in terms of legal skills and client focus. At Aitken Partners I can continue to provide high quality legal advice and client service in a client focussed law firm, with strong expertise and depth across the legal disciplines that organisations and private clients need today.”
