The international charities sector represents a significant part of the UK and not for profit sector, and one that has been an increasing area of focus for MSI’s London based accounting member haysmacintyre. According to statistics published by the UK based National Council of Voluntary Organisations, around 6% of the largest charities and 14% of medium-sized charities are international charities.
haysmacintyre expects further opportunities in this area and in recent weeks have had enquiries from a UK based charity with a United States based subsidiary. As part of this opportunity, the potential client requires a co-ordinated global service offering and has met with haysmacintyre and held a conference call with MSI’s Maryland accounting member Rubino & Company, Chartered. haysmacintyre is one of the few firms in the UK accredited to complete Recipient Contracted Audits for recipients of United States Government funding, which provides both opportunities to fully service our existing client base and grow the client base in this area.
During 2016, haysmacintyre won the audits of Unicef UK, World Land Trust and Build Africa. Such successes enable haysmacintyre to generate additional credibility in this area of the Not for Profit sector and the firm anticipates that it will, in turn, generate further opportunities to tender for work in this sector. Plus, there were a number of opportunities to provide added-value services to international clients in addition to the firm’s statutory audit offering; additional work including VAT advice and grant funder audits for a range of donors.
Murtaza Jessa (Partner and Head of General Charities) and Steve Harper (Senior Manager) presented at the last Civil Society NGO Insight conference on the challenges facing International NGOs and some of the accounting technical matters relevant to the sector. For further information on haysmacintyre’s international charities work please get in touch.
We are a full service, award winning mid-tier firm of Chartered Accountants and tax advisers in central London, providing advice to entrepreneurs, fast-growing and owner-managed businesses, charities and not for profit organisations across the UK and internationally.
