Kerr Russell partners receive “Lawyers of the Year” recognition

MSI's Michigan law member Kerr Russell is delighted to announce that the firm's partners, Eric Lark and Fred Herrmann, were named the Best Lawyers® 2019 "Lawyers of the Year" in Detroit for corporate law and antitrust law respectively.

Eric Lark has more than 25 years of experience in the areas of business law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, securities law and private equity, real estate law, insurance law and the formation and representation of captive insurance companies, risk retention groups and other alternative risk transfer entities.

Eric represents public and private companies in the manufacturing, technology, services, construction, transportation, real estate, financial services, private equity, healthcare and insurance industries. He serves as counsel for a number of businesses, and provides assistance with business formations, mergers, buying and selling businesses, joint ventures, international transactions, public and private offerings and other securities matters, private equity and financing transactions, contracts, real estate matters and captive insurance, both onshore and offshore.

Eric publishes articles and frequently lectures at the local, national and international levels on topics related to business law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and captive insurance. He is past Chairman of the 3,500 member Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.  He is also active in his community, serving as his homeowners association’s President for over 15 years, currently chairing the Northville Township Planning Commission and acting as a member of the Township’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

Eric has been recognized by Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business; ranks among The Best Lawyers in America®, Woodward/White, Inc.; and been rated a “Michigan Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters. Fred K. Herrmann maintains a diverse litigation and alternative dispute resolution practice across a wide range of industries. He has substantial experience in class action defense, multidistrict litigation, antitrust, patent and other intellectual property litigation, attorney and other professional liability defense, and contract disputes, as well as supply chain and other disputes implicating the Uniform Commercial Code.  Fred has tried cases in state and federal courts, has filed briefs and argued cases in state and federal appellate courts, and has mediated resolutions for complex disputes on behalf of his clients. Fred is also available to serve as a neutral mediator.

Fred is the immediate past Chair of the Representative Assembly, the final policymaking body of the State Bar of Michigan.  He has also served on the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan, and is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

In the federal arena, Fred is the Secretary/Treasurer of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Prior to practicing law, and following graduation from the United States Naval Academy, Fred served as a logistics officer in the United States Marine Corps, where he deployed overseas with Second Battalion, Ninth Marines, and then served on the logistics staff of the First Marine Division. He subsequently served as a reservist with Detroit’s own First Battalion, Twenty-fourth Marines, as a logistics officer and H&S Company Commander.
