Geoff Trobridge, Partner at MSI's UK South Coast law member firm Lester Aldridge, has passed the data protection exam set by the British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT, with a distinction and is now a qualified data protection practitioner.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 came into force on 25th May, introducing a radical new approach to the protection of personal data. Everyone who uses personal data must be able to demonstrate compliance with the law and that they have systems and procedures to protect the personal data under their control. There is a new emphasis upon the rights of the individual over their personal data and businesses must be prepared to respond to a newly assertive public and to the Information Commissioner.
Our expert data protection team, led by Geoff Trobridge, can assist businesses with the new regulations and help avoid the sanctions imposed by the increased enforcement powers.
Geoff Trobridge comments: “Data protection law has become an essential consideration in any organisation. It has implications for HR, marketing, websites and cookies, record keeping, security and on business transfers. New e-Privacy Regulations are expected in 2019. It is essential that businesses keep on top of developments and see 25th May as the start and not the end of the process of compliance.”
Lester Aldridge is a full service law firm, advising commercial organisations and private individuals on a regional, national and international scale, from offices in Southampton and Bournemouth.
