Smith Moore Leatherwood partner named chair of National Association of Corporate Directors

MSI's South Carolina and Georgia law member Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP is pleased to announce that R. Scott Tobin has been named chair of the Research Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Tobin succeeds Michael Cunningham, executive vice president of Red Hat, Inc.

Tobin is a partner based out of the firm’s Raleigh and Atlanta offices. His practice focuses primarily on managing risk and capitalizing on growth opportunities for privately held technology companies and their investors. Additionally, he serves as U.S. general counsel to expansion-minded overseas companies, advising them on all aspects of U.S. market entry.

Tobin has a varied background as a lawyer, senior executive, entrepreneur and venture capitalist and has served as a board member of public, private and nonprofit companies. He received his juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Research Triangle Chapter of the NACD is comprised of local corporate leaders. The mission of the NACD is to promote effective corporate leadership through educational programs and services that address the professional needs of corporate directors, boards and other stewards of business entities.
