Smith Moore Leatherwood’s attorney appointed chair of North Carolina State Bar’s Appellate Practice Specialisation Committee

1st July 2016

MSI's law member Smith Moore Leatherwood is pleased to announce that Beth Brooks Scherer, an attorney in the firm's Raleigh office, has been appointed Chair of the North Carolina State Bar's Appellate Practice Specialisation Committee.

Beth is a Board Certified Specialist in Appellate Practice, and served as vice-chair of the Committee since its inception in 2011.

The Appellate Practice Specialisation Committee consists of attorneys and appellate judges with extensive experience in appellate practice. As Chair of the Committee, Scherer will lead the Committee’s preparation and grading of appellate practice exams that are given to applicants seeking certification. The Committee also periodically evaluates existing appellate practice specialists for re-certification, as well as providing recommendations regarding the standards for certification.

Scherer’s practice focuses on appellate litigation in North Carolina state and federal courts. She is the immediate past Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Rules Committee, a regular contributor to the firm’s North Carolina Appellate Practice Blog, and a frequent speaker and author on issues of North Carolina Appellate Practice and Procedure.
