UK: Top towns for top tier lawyers

28th April 2021

At first glance, there may not be much of a connection between suburban Altrincham, near the infamous Cheshire Golden Triangle, and independent Stroud, home to Ecotricity and the birthplace of Extinction Rebellion. Yet recently, both towns were crowned as some of the best places to live in Great Britain by The Times and both have a link with MSI's Northern UK law member Myerson Solicitors.

Myerson was founded in Altrincham over 35 years ago. In recent times, the law firm has been proud to play its part in the resurgence of Altrincham and is now also involved in a major transformation of part of Stroud town centre.

Myerson Solicitors, Real Estate Legal Director, Ian Gordon said; “When I first visited the Merrywalks Centre in Stroud in 2018, it was difficult to see the potential in what, at the time, was a very tired and dated shopping centre. However, I knew better than to dismiss the ability of my client, Mark Dransfield, to transform Merrywalks into something completely different, in view of Mark’s track record with other schemes we have worked on elsewhere in the UK”.

The first thing to happen was to re-name Merrywalks as Five Valleys. Since Ian’s involvement in purchasing the site in 2018, work has been ongoing to revamp Five Valleys and improve the shopping experience for Stroud’s locals.

Altrincham’s food and drink market is an example of how to breathe new life into a town and Stroud’s farmers market is known as one of the best in the country. Five Valleys now also has its own artisan market offering numerous food and drink options, with the legal paperwork put together by Myerson to enable market traders to be signed up with the minimum of fuss.

In addition, Myerson has been involved in lettings to the likes of Notting Hill’s Subcouture, Craghoppers, Medulla Hairdressing and boutique store Sandersons, as well as the exchange of an agreement for lease to bring a brand-new medical centre to the scheme.

Ian continued: “It might be stretching a point for Myerson to claim credit for the awards given to both towns by The Times! However, we are delighted to have played a role in the improvements made to both towns and hope to continue to do so in the years to come”.
