Dan Richards named Weston Hurd Managing Partner

MSI's Ohio law member Weston Hurd LLP is pleased to announce that Daniel A. Richards has been named Managing Partner of the 42-attorney firm effective January 1, 2020. Dan succeeds Carolyn M. Cappel who is stepping down after 12 years as Managing Partner.

Dan joined Weston Hurd in 1994 and has served on the firm’s five-person Management Committee since 2010, most recently as Assistant Managing Partner for the past five years.  “It is an honor to lead one of Ohio’s oldest and most respected law firms. Weston Hurd has an almost 100 year history of providing excellent and affordable representation to our diverse client base throughout Ohio and nationally. I look forward to building upon Carolyn’s years of leadership as we continue to implement the strategic changes which will allow us to continue to serve our clients for many years to come.” Dan’s legal practice encompasses more than 25 years of first chair trial and appellate court experience representing hospitals, healthcare professionals, construction companies, manufacturers, retailers and the insurance industry. He also serves as national litigation counsel for construction and manufacturing industry clients. Dan has tried cases in Ohio’s state courts and federal courts and throughout the United States and has handled appeals in every appellate district in Ohio, the Ohio Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Within the legal community, Dan is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys (OACTA), Chair of OACTA’s Appellate Practice Section, former Chair of OACTA’s Medical Malpractice Section, a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, a member of the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, and a founding member of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section. Dan has been recognized in the Best Lawyers in America® for Medical Malpractice Law–Defendants and as an Ohio Super Lawyer for Business Litigation. After receiving his B.S. in Business from Miami University in 1989, Dan earned his J.D. in 1992 from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he was co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law and Health.
